Fall II Registration Now Open

You now can register for Fall II classes. While classes remain open to the public on a walk-in basis, those who register will be provided with .pdfs of the public domain reading materials, a week-by-week reading guide, and class announcements via email. Here are the course descriptions–

Masters of Suspicion:

This course will feature 19th-century American Gothic fiction and present ways of thinking the Gothic as an important and unique mode of social critique. The short stories will be distributed via email to all who register for the class and the Irving novel will be available for purchase at Prairie Lights Bookstore. This course will be presented in the traditional CHI lecture format, where reading is encouraged but not demanded. This class will meet from 12:30-1:30 on Tuesdays at the Senior Center.

Existential Detective Fictions:

This course will be taught seminar style instead of through lectures—the instructor will guide students through the readings using a series of questions instead of statements. Students therefore will be asked to read the material in advance of hearing questions that will help to guide their understanding of the selected texts. Familiarity with the material covered in the Fall I course, currently available on the “Online Offerings” portion of the page, is strongly recommended. This class will meet on Thursday from 11-12 at the Senior Center.
